Abner Mares (18-0, 11 KO’s)The pride of Montebello, California and a member of the 2004 Mexican Olympic team and a budding star both in the United States and in Mexico (originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico). Blessed with a full arsenal of weapons in the ring, the 23-year-old Mares won the NABO bantamweight title with a seventh round stoppage of former World Champion Isidro “Chino” Garcia of Guerrero, Mexico in September of 2007 and defended the crown twice with wins over Argentinean David Marchiano and Diosdado Gabi of the Philippines. After an impressive victory over 15-1 Jonathan Arias in June of 2008, Mares stopped Jonathan Perez in six rounds this past May. This coming August 27th, he hopes to continue on his road to the top of the 118-pound division in front of his hometown fans.
Standing in his way will be hard-hitting Santo Domingo native Carlos Fulgencio (11-3-1, 7 KO’s). A fierce competitor with six knockouts in three rounds or less to his name, Fulgencio is coming off a blistering first round knockout of Nelson Diaz in May.
